The design and build process with S&S has been a tremendous learning experience I will never forget and the memories made since picking up our van can never be replaced. I had a long and successful design-build experience with Chris and the crew at Sequoia and Salt. My wife and I tired of sleeping in tents on the ground and a travel van seemed to be a good way to fix that problem as we headed into retirement. We were naive about costs and such when we started looking in winter 2023-2024. As we learned we thought we would want to get something custom and so also thought we would want to work with someone relatively close to us (we live on LI). Sequoia and Salt was one of two companies we seriously considered, and in spring 2024 we started serious discussions, albeit at a leisurely pace. But we got the degree of customization we hoped for from them, bought a van platform in November, finalized the prelim design about then too. There were some delays on their part that winter-spring, but a final design was reached in late spring., construction started in July 2025 and we took possession in mid-August. Very happy with what we got. We spent about 2x over our very naive notions from early 2024 and final costs were about 25% more than we hoped we might be able to pay, but the product is very very good. Sequoia and Salt were very flexible in delivering to us the very particular product that we wanted; you need to understand that there are costs to vary from standard layouts and we were willing to pay those. But Sequoia and Salt's cost was also a lot less than some other firms we briefly considered. So they weren't cheap, but they were reasonable, they gave us what we wanted (and some more), and the quality of their work was first class. If a singular design (based off a base product, mind you) is the path you want to follow, then Chris and his team can do that for you and do it well.
